Library Programs
Gjon is dedicated to scholastic chess in the Santa Cruz community. He offers three free instruction
sessions each week for all youth interested in exploring chess. Each session is geared toward a
specific age and/or experience level — if you have questions about which session would be most
appropriate, please Contact Gjon.
Central Library Branch
- Every Sunday (except the 1st Sunday of each month); upstairs in the children's section.
- Session 1: 2:00-2:45pm for ages 5-9. Appropriate for beginning players.
- Session 2: 3:00-4:00pm for ages 10-15. Consideration for advanced younger children upon Gjon's approval.
Aptos Library Branch
- Gjon co-teachers with Expert Dana Mackenzie in the Library Meeting Room (near the front entrance) on the third and forth Saturday of each month.
- 3:00-4:30pm. The instruction is for children age 13 and older.
- This class offers more advanced instruction, group discussions, student own annotations of their games on the demonstration board and supervised free play.
