Santa Cruz County Girls Tournament

When:

Saturday, March 25, 2006  —  9am - 3pm

Who:

Girls only in grades K-8, in two divisions: K-3 and 4-8

What:

Unrated Tournament

Quads format (3 games). Each quad of four players is grouped by age & ability. Girls will only play within their age section unless they choose to "play up". This format provides for good exposure to a tournament setting without requiring the players to commit to an entire day of game play (as is common in a longer Swiss format tournament).

This tournament is NOT USCF rated and membership in USCF is not required to play. You do not need previous tournament experience to play, and there will be a number of beginner quads. You only need to know the rules of chess. Rated players are encouraged to provide their rating on the registration form to assist in proper Quad groupings. Players rated over 1100 may not have adequate competition at this tournament and will be notified if we cannot form at least one "advanced" quad.

Simultaneous Exhibition

Louiza Livschitz

Features 14 year-old advanced player Louiza Livschitz (USCF 1936). Louiza will compete simultaneously against all players who wish to challenge her. Simuls are great fun for all levels of experience. Some players enjoy the chance to "take down" a master level player, while others just like being able to meet and interact with a wonderful chess role-model.

Learn About Chess

Even if you do not want to play, we encourage anyone interested in chess to attend. You can observe the games and simul, as well as listen to Louiza give a short talk about chess and speak with Gjon Feinstein about Santa Cruz chess programs.
